A major global tech company providing cloud & AI infrastructure is seeking a highly skilled and innovative Data Centre Designer (x2) to join their team. This is a critical contract role for up to 12 months, based at Eastern Creek in Sydney. You will play a key role in building out, maintaining, and operationally improving the cloud infrastructure, working closely with the data centre development organisation and external vendors.
The Data Centre Designer evaluates the reliability of materials, properties, and techniques used in production. You will plan, design, and develop electronic parts, components, integrated circuitry, mechanical systems, equipment, packaging, and telecom system design.
Key Responsibilities Include:
- Manage and create the design of data centre white space, including rack layout, hot/cold containment, network infrastructure, branch circuit distribution, power requirements, cable pathway, and projected build phases.
- Collaborate with colocation providers and internal stakeholders to deliver project design criteria and develop the Basis of Design.
- Coordinate with key internal teams to establish requirements and work with colocation providers to ensure requirements are met.
- Participate in the development of data centre facilities requirements documentation.
- Research new designs, materials, and construction methods for data centre electrical and mechanical equipment and related components.
- Create, develop, and maintain data centre infrastructure site documentation, including floor plans, rack elevations, and cable matrices.
- Review and evaluate RFI, RFP, and RFQ submittals.
- Assist in creating global data center infrastructure standards.
- Participate in project coordination meetings, and clearly communicate any necessary or recommended updates to project scheduling.
Desired Skills and Experience:
- Five years of professional experience working in a critical data centre environment.
- Experience creating technical drawings using AutoCad and Visio.
- Ability to manage multiple concurrent projects and work effectively in a team environment.
- Strong knowledge of Data Center/Critical environment Electrical Mechanical Infrastructure.
- Experience in Vendor management.
- Solid experience with cabling infrastructure best practices and methodologies.
- Understanding of Industrial/commercial electrical one-line diagrams.
- Understanding of BMS/EPMS control systems and data collection/trending.
- Experience in the development of MOPs/SOPs/EOPs for carrying out systems operations.
- Knowledge of Data Centre PUE (Power Usage Effectiveness) and how it is derived.
- Proficient in reading and comprehending blueprints and building documentation.
- Must possess proven problem-solving skills.
- Ability to complete work independently and handle most unique situations autonomously.
